Gilgit-Skardu Road is a road which links the Giligt City, the administrative headquarter of the Gilgit-Baltistan with the Skardu city. This road is approximately 245 km long and takes about 5 and half hour to reach from Gilgit to Skardu. The road was constructed by the Engineers of the Pakistan Army in collaboration with Chines Engineers and it was completed and opened to public in 1982. The road is one of the worlds dangerous roads which has been constructed by cutting the rocks of the mountain. One can see the shape of the rods of the machines which was used to make hole in the rocks of the mountain for blasting. Pakistan Army had lost number of soldiers while completing this road. One can see the name of soldiers inscribed on stone or marble on side of the road at interval. The road follows every twist and turn of the Indus River from Gilgit up-to Skardu. While on the way from Gilgit to Skardu there comes number of valleys and number of suspension bridges which connects on part of the Roundu Valley (A subdivision of Skardu consisting of number of valleys and road length of this valley is 136 km) into the other part. One cay say the bridges connect the Karakorum and Himalaya mountains, because the mountains on northern side of the Indus River is know as Karakorum Mountain Ranges and on southern is known as Himalayan Mountain Ranges.
While travelling on the road the outsiders who is not found of travel on such kind of roads think this is their last journey, but the drivers are so trained that they drive in such a nice way, so no accident occurs.
